According to the 5R strategies of waste management, four actions should be taken before recycling wherever possible: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and then Recycle. Reuse is the second most preferred waste management option after waste reduction. However, the most studied strategies are reduce, repurpose, and recycle, probably because refuse and reuse depend on people’s behaviour.

The question arises as to how we can address our current waste production and disposal and where we can make improvements that will benefit both the companies and the environment.
